BIPP - French Synthwave circa 1979 - 85

For those of you that appreciate retro synthpop you will love this.  A friend of mine introduced me to this CD which for the time it was release was pretty forward thinking.  Lots of great synth arpeggios and fun French pop hooks. I find it fascinating to hear ideas in these songs that you hear further developed in later synth pop music & industrial.  For those not so into retro synth music and spastic French singing, you might find this a bit cringe worthy.

Ableton Live Drum Rack Tutorial

I ran accross this video this morning and while I don't think this tutorial will get you "realistic" sounding hi-hats, it will help you get more interesting ones.  I've used this trick alot to create interest in the highats. DJ Vespers does a nice job explaining this in easy to understand steps.

February Album Writing Month & New Song Writing Tools

February Album Writing Month is in swing now, but its not to late to sign up and face the challenge at FAWM.org.  Every year FAWM.org hosts a song writing challenge to write 14 songs in 28 days.  They offer inspirational ideas every week to get your creative juices flowing.  This weeks: 

"Write a song using rests in the melody, or come to a complete stop, to create emphasis, tension and/or humor.

Examples: “Kiss” (Prince), “Roxanne” (The Police), “Mah Na Mah Na” (Piero Umiliani - Muppets), "Blister in the Sun" (Violent Femmes)."

Also FAWM.org has just released a new song writing tool for collaboration called FAWM CollabPad.  You can get it HERE. 

I took the FAWM challenge last year.  I didn't get 14 songs written but I did get 5 written... and 5 is better than ZERO ;-)
